recording engineer program
The Recording Engineer Program (REP) supports Black youth in Ottawa who are interested in building careers as a sound engineer. Through two small cohorts, we teach participants practical knowledge in recording, mixing, mastering, and studio workflow while learning how to navigate client relationships and professional environments.
The program combines workshops, one-on-one mentorship, studio shadowing, and profile building to support both technical and career development. REP participants receive an honorarium for each workshop ($400 total), along with fully covered meals and transportation, so our program is accessible for Black youth of all financial backgrounds.

1-on-1 mentorship & coaching
PBY staff continue to support program alumni through ongoing 1-on-1 mentorship, giving Black youth access to otherwise inaccessible high-quality music gear and support from mentors with shared lived-in experience. Coaching with OMIC Song of the Year award-winner, N’nerjie and seasoned guitarist Xavior Kayvon Gough are offered to youth at a subsidized rate.
